No, it's not what you think.

You know my Twitter account? After tonight's Up All Night shoot, I posted the following:

Done shooting Bruno and Beth Cooper reviews. News10 anchor Dale Schornack told me he likes Malvin Blackstone. Must remember to tell Malvin.

That was pretty cool by itself. Well, a few hours later, I see that someone replied to my tweet... none other than Michael Barnathan, a producer of the movie I Love You Beth Cooper...

@edgylesjr What did you think of Bruno? Beth Cooper?

You know I had to respond. But how do I tell this guy that I slammed his movie without even watching it? And how do I tell him in only 140 characters? (Keep in mind, Barnathan's account is followed by Chris Columbus, the movie's director, and Larry Doyle, screenwriter and author of the original book.)

Of course, I tell him the truth:

@MBarnathan: My character is a critic who hates everything. Nobody takes him seriously. Haven't seen ILYBC yet, but want to. Looks charming.

And yes, I do want to see the movie, and it does look charming. I wasn't sucking up.

The thing I like about this guy is that he's reaching out directly to people who may have seen this movie, to find out what they thought about it. Sure, you could be cynical about his motivations, since he does have a stake in the movie's success. But if I were in his shoes, I'd want to know if people liked it. I appreciate that he asked me himself, not through an associate or marketing research group.

So yeah, two "pretty cools" in one night.

My grandmother passed away today. I knew it was coming when I went to visit her a week ago. I'd rather not get into details right now, but her passing was the best thing that could have happened for her.

So yeah, if I'm kind of distracted tomorrow, you'll know why.

... but first, an announcement.

Tonight, starting at 9:00 p.m., I'll be in Folsom shooting a small part in an independent horror film called Chain Letter. I'm pretty sure I'll be playing a reporter, and not someone who murders or gets murdered. I found all of this out just a few hours ago.

To get back to my topic, I left work early today so I could get a costume together and do other "getting ready" stuff. I also plan on taking a nap soon, in case the shoot goes into the wee hours of the morning. But before I do, since I have a little extra time, I thought I'd update you all here.

I realize I don't post here a whole bunch. And I realize I've said this before in previous posts. But I'm on here a lot, usually once a day, usually lurking and reading other posts. Every once in a while I get around to writing something of substance.

A few weeks back, some folks convinced me to open a Twitter account. I wasn't interested in sharing obsolete and mundane factoids about my everyday life, but I was intrigued by providing convenient, brief updates for those people who are actually interested. And I think I can manage 140 characters at a time.

I don't update Twitter every five minutes, but I do post there at least a few times a week, which is a lot more than I do here. I'm not saying that I plan on abandoning my LJ account. But if any of you are feeling a bit out of the Ed loop, now you have another resource.

If you don't have a Twitter account, you can follow my updates here. If you do, you can either follow @edgylesjr or continue to stalk me from an anonymous distance.

Will I Twitter-feed this account? Nah. I like to think I'll get back to making more regular, substantial LJ posts in the near future. Or at least the occasional YouTube clip.

Pixar did it to me again. *sniff*

Tonight, after shooting my latest Malvin Blackstone movie reviews (for "Up" and "Drag Me to Hell"), I was approached by one of the show's producers. In short, I was offered a small role in an episode of the Nite Tales television series, produced by the same company. It's only two pages, but I'd get to play a middle-management jerk. Heh heh. I'm not sure where or when it will air (I imagine sometime in the fall), but I'll let you know when I find out.

I know it doesn't sound like much, but I wouldn't have even been offered this role if it weren't for good ol' Malvin Blackstone. And maybe this little Nite Tales gig will lead to something else. At any rate, I'll enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts.

By the way, if fame and fortune ever go to my head, just remember this: YOU are my first and favorite Little People. :)

If you missed Malvin's movie review from last week (written and performed by yours truly), go to his profile page at UPALLNITE.tv to check it out.

(Yes, they messed up the spelling in the video caption. Oops.)

It's [info]vivalabonita's birthday. Wish her a happy one. She's "this many" now.

Suicide's like sleep.
But what if I have nightmares?
I'll pass... Shh! Ophie!

That's right. After all this time, Yours Truly is about to be featured in his first television program!

UP ALL NITE is a local production that reports on entertainment and nightlife in the greater Sacramento area.

I will portray Malvin Blackstone, the resident movie critic. In the first episode, Malvin will share his thoughts on X-Men Origins: Wolverine (which are not necessarily mine, by the way).

Not only to I get to appear in a regular segment, but I also write my own material. Of course, there's collaboration with the head writer and producers, but I've been given a lot of creative freedom on this project.

I'd love to have each of you watch the show and let me know what you think. Starting this week, UP ALL NITE airs Friday mornings at 1:06 a.m. (that's reeeeeally late Thursday for you insomniacs) on KXTV-10 in Sacramento.

If you plan on recording the show on your DVR or TiVo, please watch it within 24 hours to help out our ratings.

Don't worry, I won't let the fame go to my head. Much.

Here's an informational video from the CDC:

(Not a joke or parody. In short, take the same common-sense precautions as you would for any seasonal flu, but go to the hospital if certain symptoms occur. And it's okay to eat cooked pork.)

This letter was sent via Garbeau’s Dinner Theatre’s e-mail list:

To Our Friends... )

It's my first day of vacation, and I've got a bad case of insomnia. I've been up for nearly 23 hours already. The alarm is set to go off four hours from now, and I probably won't get back to the hotel until at least 9:30 p.m.

On the bright side, this insomnia got me to post to LJ. Heh.

Garbeau's is having an actor's benefit performance of I Love You Because for only ten bucks. It's this Sunday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and it's first come, first seated. No reservations are available, and only cash will be taken at the door. This money goes directly to the talented cast.

Remember, this show is slightly naughty, and recommended for adult audiences.

Oh, and if you haven't heard, Garbeau's raised enough money over the weekend to get their landlord to re-negotiate their rental agreement. So things are looking good. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the cause.

(The following is re-posted from Andrea Castel, co-owner of Garbeau's Dinner Theatre. Please take the time to read this.)

We received notice from our landlord that if we raise $8,000 by Monday, March 16th, we may be able to renegotiate our lease in a way that lets Garbeau's survive this recession!

If we do not raise that much by this weekend, Garbeau's will be closing its doors permanently.

Please spread the word and come see us this week(end)!

We are grateful to the MANY people who have already contributed, and we know a lot of you have intended to do so, but may have forgotten. Now's the time! Please don't hesitate, or it might be too late! We also appreciate that not everyone is in a financial position to make a contribution. We hope you will help our cause by spreading the word to others you know that might be in a position to help us.

Thank you for helping us save Garbeau's!

Opening Friday: I Love You Because

I Love You Because is a romantic musical comedy that's a little bit naughty. Think Pride and Prejudice meets Coupling in New York City.

Austin is an uptight greeting card writer who pines for his cheating ex-girlfriend. Marcy is a free-spirited photographer who finally gets out of a dead-end relationship. They meet on a double blind date, set up by Austin's big brother and Marcy's best friend. Although they're looking for a temporary rebound, their search for the "wrong" person turns into something unexpected for everyone involved.

Critics call I Love You Because "infectiously entertaining" (The New York Times), "the perfect date musical ... a show to restore your faith in musical comedy" (Talking Broadway), and "everything an off-Broadway musical should be" (The Wall Street Journal).

I Love You Because stars Aaron Boyer, Joshua Brown, Jessica Larrick, Lafras le Roux, Meg Masterson, and Norma-Jean Russell. Directed by Ed Gyles Jr. The show opens this Friday, February 13, and runs through March 29. Garbeau's Dinner Theatre is located at the Nimbus Winery, off U.S. 50 and Hazel Avenue in Rancho Cordova.

Recommended for mature audiences.

My Way Benefit Performance

Do you like Frank Sinatra? Do you like Zach Abdallah, Jeff Labowitch, Ruth Phillips, and Norma-Jean Russell?

Join me at the actors' benefit performance of My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra this Sunday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m.

David Jacobson of Village Life calls My Way "a charming and sophisticated revue" with "compelling performances."

Admission is $10 cash at the door, all of which goes directly to the actors. No checks or credit cards can be accepted for admission. Hot snack-type foods will also be available for purchase. No reservations will be taken, so arrive early for the best choice of seats.

Directions are available at Garbeaus.com.

I know that I haven't posted much substantive content in the last few months. I'd like to change that, but I need a kick in the butt.

What do you want me to blog about?

Due to illness, the actor's benefit performance of My Way has been canceled for tonight.

It has been rescheduled for Sunday, January 25th at 7pm.

I'll put out another reminder when the time comes. Thanks for your understanding.
